The active principle of the fruit of Cardo Mariano (Silybum marianum) is silimarin. Silimarin is composed of three isomers called silibine, silidanine and silicristine, all classified as flavonolignanos, being silybine the most important component.

It stands out mainly as hepatoprotector, acts directly on the liver cells, protecting them and repairing the effect that may have caused toxic substances in them. Its antioxidant effect also has a clear affinity for liver cells. It also regulates blood flow to the liver and favors the production and secretion of bile.
